SAVE OUR SLOUGH GREEN SPACES - SIGN THE PETITION HERE NOW

During February we launched our campaign with residents at Bowyer Recreation Ground calling on Slough Borough Council to guarantee it will protect urban public green spaces in our town from redevelopment in the local plan.

We were approached by residents in the St Paul's/St Johns area of Central Slough, whose local green space Bowyer Recreation Ground is under threat from proposed redevelopment of the canal basin.

We are backing their call to save these fields, which if redeveloped will leave thousands of residents in the area without a public green space. These fields were bequeathed to the people of Slough by the Bowyer family to allow it to remain as a benefit for the whole community – and residents in the area are clear that the council should be doing the decent thing and respecting this.

Urban public green spaces such as this are not only limited and vital for leisure, but also contribute to providing our town environment with cleaner air, essential given the town is the third most polluted town in the South East with one of the highest rates of childhood obesity, as well as encouraging active lifestyles, vital in a town with challenges around obesity.

To support the campaign, we are sponsoring on behalf of residents a petition to the council to ensure that it protects Bowyer Recreation ground and all existing public green spaces across Slough from being developed on for residential or commercial purposes as part of its current and future local plans, for the benefit of residents' quality of life.

Over the coming weeks and months, we will be working with residents to collect signatures in support of this petition, which you can sign up to online here, and hope that residents will choose to support this cause.
