Eurosceptic, Daniel Hannan MEP, was in Slough on Saturday evening, 16th February, at an outstanding event organised by Slough Conservatives.
He inspired guests with his strong views on the EU and free trade, citing that: “The euro is a recessionary device, inflicting unemployment on the peripheral states and tax-rises on the core. It's survival is preventing a recovery.”Amongst many established guests in attendance was the Leader of the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, David Burbage, who said:
“I really enjoyed attending the Slough Conservatives’ dinner with Dan Hannan; his insights into the trading barriers with the rest of the world that the EU imposes upon the UK were really valuable. Many thanks to Anna and the team for putting this event on.”
Raffle prizes included a signed bottle of whiskey from David Cameron, a monopoly board signed by Boris Johnson and a signed copy of Dan’s latest book “A Doomed Marriage".
Slough Conservatives are donating £200 to the homeless charity SHOC (Slough Homeless Our Concern).
Conservative Group Leader, Anna Wright, congratulated Dan for his dazzling critique of Europe:
“Dan is a truly hypnotic speaker and had the whole room in a political trance. With an In/Out European Referendum looming, Dan’s visit was utterly judicious. By showing that EU membership is not only bad for our economy and our democracy, Dan has given us plenty of food for thought. You don’t win referendums by moaning and name calling; you win them by being optimistic and pragmatic. Bring it on!”
