If anyone has seen the state of the road barriers on Wellington Street, the main Gateway to Slough, they will know that the damage to them has been left in this state for months and is testament to the way our highways and other services have been provided by our Labour-led council. The kind of neglect this example highlights extends to every area of our town.
Our streets are littered with abandoned sofas and rubbish, and bins go uncollected - worsening since they have brought rubbish collection and cleaning in house. Our High Street is dead, and the promise of regeneration seem shattered after 10 years of broken promises.
Air quality is worsening and there are no plans to improve it in their manifesto. All over Slough, street safety and crimes such as burglaries are plaguing neighbourhoods and seem to be considered just a minor inconvenience by Labour councillors.
Green spaces are under threat and being eroded by endless planning permissions granted for tower blocks of one room flats without any consideration of the impact on our environment or quality of life. It is very clear to me and residents that Labour is intent on making Slough just another bland, soulless commuter town.
Even when there are new, adequate family-home developments, they are built without proper parking and access, with residents suffering congestion even to get out of their own estates, such those at the Kings Reach in Upton, where the council is just turning a blind eye to the problem.
The most shameful of all neglect by Council’s is when they are considered incapable of performing its normal duty towards its most vulnerable residents particularly children - and that exactly what happened in Slough when care of children was taken away from them by the Government.
Labour don’t care about Slough - even one of their own candidates, Hamzah Ahmed, was so ashamed he wanted the name of the town changed to something else. They take voters for granted without serving them properly and are taking us for a ride. The good people of Slough are fast realising that now is the time for change, because under Labour control, only Labour and their councillors thrive - not our beloved Slough
