When it comes to services, it’s quality not quantity Preston…

I want to thank Preston Brooker, Labour Councillor for Langley Kedermister ward for making me laugh. It’s been a while since any Labour Councillor’s made me even smile when I look at the sorry state our town is in.

Anything the Slough Conservatives would do would certainly be hugely better than what Labour has done for Slough over the last 10 years. To say that the services provided by the Labour run Council have been average would be a compliment. You only need go and speak to residents to find out how unhappy they are.

Councillor Brooker states that the recycling rates are poor because residents contaminate recycling with normal waste. All residents please pay attention – Slough Labour are blaming you for one of the worst recycling rates in the country.

He also agrees that there were problems with children’s services and that the council are having to work with the Children’s Trust to try and improve the care of Slough’s looked after children. My question to Councillor Brooker would be “Why let it get so bad in the first place?”. Labour have had 10 years to get Children’s services to such a state that the Children’s Trust now must hold their hand to guide them out of the mess of their own making.

Councillor Brooker is right when he states that Slough has mainly good and outstanding schools. However, it is not as he states, “because the council has spent money promoting the education of Slough Children”. The reason why we have good and outstanding schools in Slough is because these schools are Academies and are therefore not under the control of Slough Borough Council. What can we expect to happen to the quality of education in Slough if Jeremy Corbyn's policy of getting rid of Grammar Schools were to be carried out? It seems to be a little deceitful of Labour run Slough Borough Council to take credit for the good results of a policy that Labour are determined to get rid of.

And lastly, that Labour would rather spend £40 million to buy a new council office when the old office was more than fit for purpose, than spend this money on services for our poorly neglected residents says it all. Council funds should be there for Slough residents, not for the council itself.

Thanks Preston – your response lays bare the choice residents have – that unless we get change in the council, they can be sure of more of the same failure from Slough Labour for another 10 years.

Many Thanks,

Meena Sharma, Candidate for Langley Kedermister
