The new government social housing green paper – published today (14 August 2018) – aims to rebalance the relationship between residents and landlords, tackle stigma and ensure that social housing can be both a stable base that supports people when they need it and support social mobility.
The green paper sets out 5 core themes:
- Tackling stigma and celebrating thriving communities
- Expanding supply and supporting home ownership
- Effective resolution of complaints
- Empowering residents and strengthening the regulator
- Ensuring homes are safe and decent
Slough Conservatives recognise the important challenges in Slough - and we support the government in making providing quality and fair social housing a priority, as it is for us in our town. Private rentals account for 24% of all homes in the town - 50% higher than the South East average. We think it is particularly important important that we tackle the problems people face in renting properties from private landlords - and these proposals will help us to support people in doing that better.
