When it comes to congestion & road safety, we are on the side of residents

For too long our Labour-led council has been acting against the interests of residents when it comes to our roads and safety.

Slough has become a national tragedy under their watch on so many scores – our town is one of the worst for traffic congestion and journey times, has one of the highest vehicle accident rates and is one of the worst for air quality and pollution. Residents quality of life is under massive strain from a lack of vision from this Labour council.

Our manifesto pledges to put tackling these at the top of our priorities. Today (Tuesday 23rd April 2019) we are proposing to Full Council to allow private hire vehicles to use our bus lanes – something that will go some way to helping free up congestion on our roads. It is typical that such an easy and practical solution is not supported by Slough Labour.

What is their answer? Close the A4 Bath Road in the centre of town, as was highlighted in their recent transport strategy. Quite what that means to congestion elsewhere can be left to the imagination of residents.

When it comes to road safety, there have been nearly 750 accidents involving children in the Slough area in the last ten years, and the rate has been increasing steadily each year. We will not sit back and wait for more accidents involving our children. Our candidates are working hard to raise the profile of and put pressure on council to make local improvements, particularly around our schools such as in St Andrews Way, Cippenham and Langley Road near the Harrow Market, Langley.

When it comes to tackling congestion and road safety, our health and safety must come first. Where Labour lack a plan, our team are there working hard to put right the wrongs and give the next generation a town they can be proud to inherit that is clean, bright and safe for everyone.
