Following the recent declaration of a change emergency in Parliament, we today call on Labour in Slough to support a joint motion at the next Council meeting.
As Conservatives, we are proud of our government’s record in office – introducing the carrier bag levy reducing use massively, improving recycling rates and reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 23% - with recent news the UK went more than 100 days without reliance on coal to power our homes for the first time.
Residents in Slough recognise our town is under great pressure from the threats and impacts of climate change – from pollution in our air to our health, from flooding that destroys our homes, and on our precious environment and green spaces.
With Slough’s Labour MP Tan Dhesi supporting the declaration in Parliament, we believe now is the time for the Labour Group to follow the example of many other councils of all political colours in doing the same.
As the youngest town in the country, we owe it the next generation in Slough to put party politics aside on this most critical of issues.
